In my new article, I establish that the European Court of Human Rights has recognised that there is a right to access to emergency health care in Council of Europe member states. A string of cases in which new mothers and their unborn or young babies passed away in Turkish maternity hospitals prompted the European Court to take this stance. Researching these cases was quite unsettling. After work, I consulted Sylvia Plath's poems on new motherhood. She skilfully mixes words of celebration and mourning. If you plan to skim my article, complement it with "Parliament Hill Fields", "A life", and "Fever 103°" too. — December 2017

"Three days. Three nights.
Lemon water, chicken
Water, water make me retch.

I am too pure for you or anyone.
Your body
Hurts me as the world hurts God. I am a lantern"

Sylvia Plath, Fever 103°
