HE CAN'T BREATHE

We are pained by the death of George Floyd, symptomatic of the police violence and ingrained racism towards black people.

I would like to use this post to put a spotlight on a few of the fantastic black scholars who I met during my years in the UK. First up is Faith Simiyu, a co-founding Partner of SOKlaw in Nairobi. She has almost finished her PhD thesis in health law. In her research, she unearths policy gaps & injustices met by vulnerable & marginalised indigenous peoples from Africa. Next, I would like to celebrate Titilayo Adebola and Ifesinachi Okafor-Yarwood. These inspiring Nigerian women both found a lectureship in Scotland right after their PhD studies! Ife is an expert in maritime security, while Titilayo built the website Flora IP, a specialist hub for all things related to food, agriculture and intellectual property. Finally, I have to introduce another IP expert Tania Phipps-Rufus, lecturer and founder of the website Fashion Law Business. — May 2020

My sister Phaedra designed this T-shirt for me. Can't wait to wear it during my next video call.
